Free theatre tickets for under 26 year olds

LIVE THEATRE, NORTHERN STAGE and THEATRE ROYAL NEWCASTLE have officially unveiled details of the Free Theatre Initiative that will provide free theatre tickets to young people at all three venues.

On the day Disney’s orginal High School Musical settles in to the Sunderland Empire, High School Musical 3 is released on DVD, showing how long a shelf life this show has, as the “Grease” of today.
Not only has the this show been converted from TV to the stage, there is an ice show version and Disney released the third version at the cinema rather than on TV. On top of this there are the computer games , merchandise, clothing, bags, lunch boxes and toys, in fact the list of merchandise is endless. Read more
Whatsonstage winners have local links

At tonights Whatsonstage awards (remember we were at the nominations in December)

Currently Sofia Escober can be seen at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle, in her award winning role of Maria, where the musical has just entered its second week. This 50th Anniversary tour of West Side Story has been winning rave reviews across the world.While the Best Actor in a Musical is Ryan Molloy for Jersey Boys, currently wowing audiences in the West End is a true Geordie, with family still in the region. We saw Ryan perform live at the Whatsonstage Nominations and the following week at the Royal Variety Performance.

The epic battles between the Ethiopians and the Egyptians were a mere detail compared to the epic battles that were raging for the heart of Radames (Patrizio Ha). Ramades the heroic Egyptian army captain was the obvious love target for the Pharaoh’s daughter Amneris (Zarui Vardandean) however before long Aida (Elena Dee) Ethiopian daughter of the king, captured after a battle becomes her slave and love rival.
The battle between the women rages throughout and although Aida is his true love the acceptable public betrothal has to be with Amneris. Yes, it was always going to end in tears! Read more

West Side Story is 50 years old and is recognised as the show that changed the face of musical theatre. Celebrating the fact is this 50th anniversary world tour, which while bringing the musical to a whole new audience as well as stirring the memories for many revisiting the show after many years, just fails to pull the punches needed for a show of this calibre.
