Yo-Ho-Ho and a panto full of fun is the order of the day at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle, as Writer, Producer and Director, Michael Harrison presents his fourth smash hit show.
Since first introducing the North East audiences to Clive Webb and Danny Adams, the real life father and son have become firm favourites at the venue, with each panto breaking previous records.
Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates is a fresh, new, spectacular pantomime that takes our hero on a journey which goes over and under the sea. Along the way we meet Titan the Robot , a 3D seahorse, fantastic large sets, a very different slosh scene and most of all are presented with over two hours of great family fun.
Adams plays the hero Robinson Crusoe, who sets off on an adventure to find treasure aided by his father (Webb) and mother (Chris Hayward), looking after them are the Magical Mermaid (Kathryn Rooney) and a 3D seahorse called Cecil. However the evil Blackheart the Pirate (Phil Corbitt) has plans to steal the map which leads to the treasure and his pirates will stop at nothing to delay our hero.
The opening sequence of the show is worthy of a West End production and the Theatre Royal itself sets the atmosphere from the moment audience enter the auditorium. Storm lanterns are hung around every level, smoke billows from the boxes and treasure maps are projected on the walls to add to the atmosphere.
While Clive and Danny lead the show with their antics, the audience are ready to join in from the start and instantly acknowledge Danny’s distinctive laugh. There was an immediate rapport with the pair almost to the point they were being welcomed back as old friends. Chris Hayward as Dame Rita Crusoe certainly shows how a dame should be played with numerous costume changes, great song and dance routines and frocks that were both glamorous and over the top.
North East audiences realise that even if you take away the 3D effects or Titan from the show, underneath you have a strong family fun panto and that is what Danny and Clive deliver year after year. So it is no surprise that the box office is already quickly selling tickets for next year’s pantomime, a new version of Cinderella, when Michael brings back Danny, Clive and Chris to the Theatre Royal once more.

It was a bit cheesy at times but on the hole it was brilliant!and it made up for that floor with not making me fall asleep.I was the one with the key will you beilive.
I thought it was brilliant especially the end where the ribbon things came out and my fav character was Blakhart. Titan was funny but not as funny as the mum. The part i hated most was when the spiders came out and it looked like it was coming right at us!!!!!!!! It was freaky when the octo came out as well. It strangled us ( it only looked like it it was 3D.
Danny Adams just gets better every year. Titan’s “Keegan” speech was just a classic!
The Theatre Royal has another winning production on its hands. I’ve already booked for 2009!
