Puppetry of the Penis

As its celebrates its tenth birthday Puppetry of the Penis is touring once again as proves it still has the power to surprise its audiences while at the same time leaves them laughing out loud.
No one can have failed to hear of this award winning comedy show that started live in Australia ( in fact the original performers have just recently given Whatsonstage.com North East an interview) so the audience were ready and waiting for Martyn and Dan.
But for the benefit of anyone who is unaware, the premise for the show is two naked men manipulate their genitals in to various shapes, with hilarious results. But the show never becomes tacky or dirty, it is just a good fun night out, where you can have a giggle.
Initially the performers appear in capes before stripping off completely (apart from their socks and trainers which are worn for health and safety reasons) as they begin the act.
Interestingly I found the jokes and humour between the two so entertaining from the start, I would have happily listened to that. But off the capes came and a video camera projected their “dick tricks” for all to see. These ranged from the Olympic torch complete with flame to the Eiffel Tower and the few men in the audience must have been cringing at the site of these two guys performing origami on their manhoods.
Dan Lewey was the first performer to join the show following the original cast and has stayed with the show for many years, having performed in his native Australia, Canada and the UK. While Martyn Odell is British and joined the cast after being one of the audience volunteers a few years ago.
But be warned that at one point Dan races round the audience while performing the “Bulldog” and ends up on one unsuspecting woman’s knee. While the cast do ask volunteers to join them for the “Hamburger” they quickly move on when no one identifies themselves. Anyone celebrating a birthday or Hen Night can also find themselves joining the action on stage and having their picture taken with the cast, although it is as they hold the legs of a naked Martyn doing a handstand.
The show was fast paced, entertaining and very funny, and while the mainly female audience lapped up the action on stage, the handful of men, who were accompanying their wives also seemed to enjoy the show.
With a handbook on sale on how to perform some of the tricks, I only hope some unsuspecting husbands may have had a surprise in store when their wives returned………………..

Got something to say?

I saw this yesturday at the Broxbourne Civic Hall, and I must say, it is far more entertaining then you can imagine. When you hear about it, it sounds abit crude and seedy, but Dan and Martyn make some hilarious gags and are very in touch with the audience. I loved every minute of this!!
