Panto star TITAN stops the City Centre
July 3, 2008
The press launch for Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates turned in to a real scream!
As specially invited school children took their first glimpse of the special guest star when he emerged from a marquee in Newcastle’s City Centre, they ran screaming from the event.
Press and Communications Officer for the Theatre Royal, David Brookbanks, taken totally by surprise , along with school teachers, soon rounded them up and within minutes the initial fear turned to delight as they befriended TITAN the eight foot robot .
The human stars of the show Clive Webb (Mr Crusoe) and Danny Adams (Robinson Crusoe) back for their forth pantomime along with Kathryn Rooney (Magical Mermaid) and Chris Hayward (Dame Rita) , who were both in last year’s show Aladdin, all dressed in full costume were overshadowed by the giant robot. After formal introductions were over and done with Titan sang to the human members of the cast as the crowd of onlookers grew.
Titan then started a mini walkabout before mounting his “chariot” and driving off to meet unsuspecting shoppers in Newcastle City Centre, all under the watchful eye of Wallsend born Michael Harrison, Managing Director of Qdos pantomimes, who is once again writing and directing the show.
Also joining in the fun was Pudsey Bear, as this year the pantomime is supporting Children in Need.
From the reaction of stunned shoppers, who brought the area around Greys Monumnet to a standstill in disbelief and children alike (not to mention the press who thought they had seen it all before, until today) Michael Harrison has another monster hit on his hands. The box office records are already being broken and that is still with five months to go before opening night.
There is no doubting the North East audiences have taken Clive and Danny to their hearts and know that above all the Theatre Royal pantomime is always a great show. Even if you took away the special effects , such as 3D, everyone is aware that it will still be a great family show and that is why bookings are again breaking box office records once again. With the unveiling today of Titan there is no doubt the tills in box office will be kept very busy and rightly so.
Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates opens at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday December 2nd running until January 17th Box Office is on 08448 11 2121 or on-line bookings can be made at www.theatreroyal.co.uk

I’m very excited to learn that the famous Geordie Actor Phil Corbatt the Humat of Coronation Street fame will be disgracing the stage this year. As will his mum I’m sure.
I’m sure that Mr corbitt will live up to expectations, he always has in the past………………
