Converting a hit children’s TV show into a format suitable for theatre is a difficult task, however one that the cast of Lazy Town Live made look easy!
Lazy Town Live tells the story of Lazy Town and its apparent dilemma in the fact that the town can only have one Superhero. Lazy Town’s current favourite superhero is Sportacus, but if dastardly Robbie Rotten gets his way, he’ll be replaced with his own brand of Superhero, Roboticus. This causes alarm for the townsfolk, especially since Roboticus can do everything Sportacus does, only better.
Being the nice guy he is, Sportacus leaves the town to go away and hone his Superhero skills, much to the dismay of his friends, including Mayor Meanswell and his niece Stephanie, along with other various colourful characters. He later returns and with some deliberation Robbie Rotten is foiled and Sportacus is installed as Lazy Town’s Superhero once more.
The pace of the performance is good, with the play itself lasting just over and hour and a half, making it perfectly enjoyable for children to sit through with ease. Obviously the performance was designed with them in mind, as young children are exactly who Lazy Town live caters for.
The performance not only offers great entertaining characters, but all of the cast sing at one point or another, offering a new dynamic that young children will be unlikely to have seen before. The songs are catchy, upbeat and are perfect in tone for this performance.
The characters are all reminiscent of those you’re likely to find in a Christmas Pantomime and are all great fun, even the wicked Robbie Rotten is a joy to watch.
The sets used in the performance are definitely eccentric, but are perfectly in line with the tone of the play and will definitely appeal to young children as they’re full of creative imagination.
Overall Lazy Town Live certainly offers fun for the whole family, while still sticking closely to the material of the TV Show, ensuring young children all over will enjoy it immensely.
