Dinner Theatre opens in Sunderland

Towards the end of last year Sunderland’s newest entertainment venue. “The Theatre Restaurant “opened giving people the opportunity to have a meal while enjoying a show.
Popular in America, this is the first of its kind in the Northeast of England. The venue opened on the corner of John Street and High Street West in what is fast becoming Sunderland’s entertainment sector. The venue incorporates a theatre and restaurant on the first floor. Customers do not have to move from their seats as they dine and watch this fabulous entertainment.

Flashdance comes to Sunderland

The 1983 film of Flashdance being turned in to stage musical which will stop off at the Sunderland Empire during its national tour (dates to be confirmed) after a July opening in Plymouth.
This is impresario David Ians latest project and follows in the footsteps of other screen to stage shows of the type, such as Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Fame and recently Desperately Seeking Susan
The film starred Jennifer Beals as Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh welder and exotic dancer who dreams of winning a place at a prestigious dance school and becoming a professional ballet dancer. Along the way, she has a passionate affair with Nick, the rich boss of the steel mill where she works.

This classic Chekhov play has a new translation by Stephen Mulrine and is presented by the English Touring Theatre with direction by Sir Peter Hall.
The play is set on a country estate in a small Russian village in the late nineteenth century, the arrival of an aging professor and his young wife throw the residents lives into disarray.
Sir Peter Hall directs Nicholas Le Prevost, Ronald Pickup and Neil Pearson in Chekhov’s classic tale of desperate longing, unrequited love and bitter frustration.

Oh! What a Night is an unashamedly escapist, high-energy, feel good show, combining comedy, romance and stunningly choreographed versions of everybody’s favorite disco hits.
The setting is New York in the mid-1970’s. The action centres on the city’s hippest disco, the Inferno, domain of the funkiest, coolest DJ of them all, Brutus T. Firefly. (Kid Creole) It’s the only place to be, and to be seen. Everyone’s life revolves around Saturday night. This is the one night to put on your best threads, meet your friends, dance to the coolest music on the planet, and hopefully fall in love!
