RSC BRINGS THE TAMING OF THE SHREW AND THE MERCHANT OF VENICE TO THEATRE ROYAL NEWCASTLE : 7th to 25th of OCTOBER 2008
The Merchant of Venice: In repertoire from 7 – 25 October
The Taming of the Shrew : In repertoire from 10 – 25 October
Deborah Shaw, Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Director and the Newcastle Season director, has announced the RSC’s 2008 Theatre Royal programme for October. They are Tim Carroll’s production of The Merchant of Venice and Conall Morrison’s The Taming of the Shrew.
Deborah told Whatsonstage.com North East:“These two productions will come directly from The Courtyard Theatre, our temporary home in Stratford-upon-Avon whilst the Royal Shakespeare Theatre undergoes major transformation into a modern 1000 seat thrust theatre. By the time they reach Newcastle, this company of actors will have spent over 10 months living and working together on these two Shakespeare plays as well as other creative projects.
“We are delighted to be returning to a Theatre Royal with new and improved facilities. In fact, because of the increased stage right wing area, we are able to perform the two shows in repertoire over our three week visit.
“And 2008 sees us continue our popular £5 ticket deal for 16-25 year olds, as well as a series of education events”.
Public booking for the RSC programme at the Theatre Royal opens on Saturday 23 February. Friends of the Theatre Royal can book from Tuesday 12 February. Theatre Royal Box Office: 08448 11 21 21
