After an extensive rebuild the Live Theatre (just off the Quayside in Newcastle) has reopened.

Andrew Lloyd Webber paid a visit to the Theatre Royal, Newcastle, to see the new tour of Aspects of Love which opened at the venue.
Brown gets standing ovation in Sunderland

Irish comedian Brendan O’Carroll brought his character Agnes Brown to the Sunderland Empire for the first time and received a standing ovation at the curtain. He promised the audience all off the Mrs Brown plays would come to the venue in the next 18 months.
Mrs Brown plays feature O’Carroll as the widow trying to look after her family and although they contain bad languange they are very funny and word of mouth in the North East has resulted in O’Carrolls fan base growing in the North East

Sunderland Empire
Mrs Browns Last Wedding was Irish comedian Brendan O’Carroll first outing at the Empire in the guise of Mrs Agnes Brown and at the standing ovation curtain call he announced all four plays in his trilogy (his words) would play the Empire within the next 18 months. The audience reaction last night clearly showed the Sunderland audience were ready for O’Carrolls humour and he had found a new fan base, no doubt word of mouth will enhance the audience figures by the end of the week. Waiting for Gateaux

Theatre Royal, Newcastle
The writing team of Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood scored an enormous success with their second play Dirty Dusting which opened at the Customs House, South Shields before the late Peter Sarah arranged a transfer to the Theatre Royal , in turn this led to a sell out tour, with dates in Australia being planned.
Waiting for Gateaux (their forth play following Raising the Stakes) again started life at the Customs House and has transferred across the river to the Theatre Royal, before a planned UK tour next year.
