Whatsonstage.com/Midlands has arrived

midlandslogo1.gifWeeeeeee’re Heeeeere!

In a spectacular display of shameless self-promotion, the first news item to grace the virgin pages of Whatsonstage.com/Midlands is all about… umm … us!

The good folk of Whatsonstage.com, in an unprecendented move of outstanding un-Londoncentricity, have spread their theatrical net country-wide to bring the best of the nation’s performance talent to the people in the regions. Yes, folks, there is theatre north of the Watford Gap, and here in the Midlands we’ve got some of the best of it.

I’m really excited about Whatsonstage.com/Midlands being the first site purely dedicated to performance in the Midlands, providing a platform for all the talent and flair that takes place here. The Midlands is a massive and massively diverse county, and its performance scene echoes this variety; from your big, established, Birmingham city centre theatres to your small-scale, rural productions in Shropshire. My hope for this site is that it will be able to represent this broad scope of performance that’s flourishing across the Midlands, and put the stages of central UK centre-stage.

To whet your appetites there’s some fantastic events to look forward to in the near future; the International Dance Festival Birmingham (28th April- 25th May) or Fierce! – the performance festival with bite (May 21- 1 June) or the start of the new RSC season in Stratford. (It is, perhaps, a happy co-incidence that this site is being launched in the same week as Shakespeare’s birthday and anniversary of his death. I was considering writing everything in rhyming couplets but errr. .. thought that might be a bit much…)

So get ready, we’ve landed, and it’s curtain up for the Midlands ….
