We are offering you two pairs of tickets to see Taylor Mac, courtesy of The Library Theatre and Queer Up North.
THE SHOW:
Described by Taylor himself as a show about “the desire to know and be known, The Young Ladies Of…. is a unique one man show and the opener to the popular arts festival, Queer Up North.
While stationed in Vietnam in 1968, Taylor Mac’s father, then a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, placed a lonely hearts ad in an Australian newspaper. Hundreds of women replied, but the letters were never read: he never returned.
Piled up in boxes, they gathered dust until, 30 years after his father’s death, Taylor’s mother found the letters while clearing out the garage. Hoping to discover something about his unknown father, Taylor started to read them and the eventually became the starting point for the show which has had two sold-out, critically acclaimed, runs off-Broadway.
The Young Ladies Of… mixes song, film, text, cabaret and, of course, Taylor’s trademark, unique, self-made costumes. As Taylor says “it’s not just one thing, you can’t just look at it and say, ‘it’s just a drag show,’ or ‘it’s just cabaret,’ or ‘it’s just a play.’ It’s all of these things squished together.”
