Q&A with Spongebob Squarepants
Spongebob Squarepants is currently treading the boards in his very own musical- Spongebob Squarepants: The Sponge Who Could Fly.
We caught up with him at Bikini Bottom for a quick Q&A before he and his friends appear at the Lowry next week.
Mr SquarePants… or may I call you SpongeBob..?
My friends all call me SpongeBob, except Squidward. He’s got all kinds of fun nicknames for me. My favourite is DoofusPants. He’s such a kidder.
Were you ever teased as a younge sponge about your name?
You know how kids can be….they used to call me SpongeBob FlarePants… Flared trousers were the fashion of the day after all….
I understand you want to learn to fly with the jellyfish and yet we hear you haven’t yet passed your [boat] driving test. Dare we ask if you succeed in your flying attempt?
Unless they’ve changed the law, I don’t think you need a license to dream! Flying under my own power may not yet be a reality but I try every day. So far I’ve only got a face full of dirt and gravel to show for it, but someday I WILL fly!!!!!
You’re a cook at Krusty Krab – do you fancy owning your own restaurant one day? If so, where would you have it and what food would you serve?
Krabby Patties are the most perfectly conceived and executed foodstuffs in the whole sea! I could never be happy cooking and serving anything less. So, unless Mr. Krabs decides to re-open the Krusty Krab two, I’m not going anywhere!!!
Do you mind if we ask how old you are?
I don’t mind at all…..
Have you ever fallen out with Patrick Star, your best friend?
All friends have their moments, but Patrick and I always find a way to resolve our differences without having to result to force. Besides Patrick usually forgets why he’s mad at me in the first five minutes of a disagreement.
Would you like Sandy Cheeks to be your girlfriend? If not, who would be your dream date? And where would you go?
Sandy is a nice girl alright but she’s an air breather thus sadly, it can never be……My dream date would be with a Krabby Patty with all the fixins! I would take her to the Krusty Krab to eat….oh wait is that considered cannibalism?
Even though you once used it to unclog your loo, I understand you like to listen to Squidward play his clarinet. Do you play any musical instruments?
Squidward is a musical genius!!! I play the slide whistle pretty good and I’ve been known to slap out a few little ditties on the spatula. I’m also a bit of a ukulele enthusiast. Squidward says it’s not really music, but Patrick always gets up and dances when I play, so I guess it’s just a matter of taste.
Your band was a huge hit at the Bubble Bowl - have you ever considered going professional?
Gosh no! All that practicing would seriously cut into my Krabby Patty flipping time.
Catch Spongebob Squarepants: The Sponge Who Could Fly at The Lowry from Wed 15th - Sun 18th April.
