Five Reasons To See…Gates Of Gold

Caitlin Mottram, recently seen at the Bolton Octagon in The Venetian Twins, plays Alma in the Library Theatre’s regional premiere of Gates of Gold, by Frank McGuinness. Directed by Rachel O’Riordan, the production is at the Library until Saturday 11 April.

Caitlin gives us five great reasons to see Gates Of Gold:

1:  The Play
Frank McGuinness’ powerful subtle, and funny play explores the boundaries of love, devotion, and hate. They coalesce when lovers Conrad and Gabriel hire a nurse to care for the latter as he is dying.

2: The Playwright
Hugely prolific, McGuinness works his magic on this relatively new play. It bears all the hallmarks of his particularly style of writing. I would highly recommend it as there’s something so universal about the issues that he deals with here.

3: The Cast
Rachel O’Riordan has gathered together a wonderful cast. Small but perfectly formed (there’s only five of us!) combining a wealth of experience with fresh young talent, too. We are all new to the Library Theatre but many will be familiar from various other shows and TV appearances.

4: The Music
We have some authentic Irish music and Irish instruments in the production which make for a perfect match with the dialogue. It’s lyrical yet honest; funny yet thought-provoking.

5:  The Regional Premiere
Like the Library’s last production, Rock ‘n’ Roll, this is another regional premiere - yet another opportunity to catch up with some fantastic new writing from this superb and much-loved playwright.
