Five Reasons To See…Dog Sees God
Craig Hepworth (pictured, right) is a local actor and co owner of Vertigo Productions. Recently their production of The Breakfast Club played to packed audiences at Taurus. They now turn their talents to Bert V.Royal’s off Broadway hit, Dog Sees God, an irreverant glimpse into the future at the lovable characters Charlie Brown, Peanuts & Co.
Not for the easily offended, this play is an original and darkly funny tale.
Craig is playing Beethoven as well as taking directing duties. He gave us his five reasons to get down to the Lowry to see this highly acclaimed black comedy.
1. This is the first UK production of the multi award winning off Broadway play, after a sold out run at Taurus in Manchester the show is moving to the Lowry for a limited run. This is a great chance to see this brilliant comedy by Bert V. Royal in all it’s hilarious glory.
2. The cast are made up of professional actors and new actors from the Manchester area. Many of them are returning from the highly praised Taurus run of the show but we do have 2 new cast members joining the company who are superb in the roles and fit in to the established cast brilliantly. This also makes this cast the first UK cast of the show which is also exciting. With the actors being local you get to see a very funny show as well as supporting local talent and a local company.
3. With all the doom and gloom in the world this is a perfect escapism show. Incredibly funny as well as poking fun at the stereotypes we all saw (or became in high school). It’s like no other stage comedy you have seen. It’s loud and brash and completely unapologetic for it. Its also a very funny parody of the peanuts kids, you will get to see Charlie Brown and the gang like you have never seen them before, but don’t worry, even if you have never heard of Peanuts there is something in Dog Sees God for everyone who likes to laugh.
4. After spending so much money on Christmas and New Year this still gives you the chance to have a great night out. All tickets for the show are only £7.50, a whole show for only £7.50…. you wouldn’t get that in that West End!
5. Local theatre should be supported, its great to watch the big shows in the big theatres but the small shows need an audience too. Vertigo Theatre Productions have enjoyed a great year at Taurus with sell out productions of 3sum (original play), Dog Sees God (1st UK Performances) and the recent hit The Breakfast Club. This is our 1st time at the Lowry and want it to be a huge success so we can come back again.
So in conclusion, UK premiere, award winning play, talented and local cast, very, very funny and really cheap… what’s not to love?
-Craig Hepworth
