New Season at Contact
This month Contact launches its new season with Northern International Theatre’s The Burma Play – A Comedy of Terror, a biting political comedy highlighting the plight of the Burmese people; then Frisko Dan invites you to climb aboard the late-night 42 bus in Contradictions: Ask The Question…an explosive work-in-progress exploring bigotry & prejudice.
In February, sample a total sensory adventure of your very own with Fuse New Theatre For Young People & Slung Low’s interactive Small Worlds; witness the cream of award-winning dance with the Henri Oguike Dance Company 10th Anniversary Tour; and get some loving for Valentine’s as they explore the impossibility of love with Manchester’s own storyteller, Sonia Hughes in Song of Songs; are seduced by Shakespeare in a free RAW Jam lunchtime celebration of rhythm & words; and have an evening of unconditional, unconventional love in the company of David Hoyle in Love For All.
Discover an intoxicating dystopia of breathtaking dreams and nightmares in March with Gecko’s The Overcoat; swing to the sounds of sitar, violin, bass guitar, drums, tabla & piano with Indian diva, Swati Natekar in Destiny Chakra; or join The National Hindu Students Forum for an evening of sensuous dance, drama, singing and music from the East in Sitaare 2009. You can also witness male relationships put under a microscope with the street dancers of State of Emergency ’s Mission Possible: Dads & Lads Move!
April sees Edinburgh Fringe award-winners, Top of The World in Paperweight, an absurd (almost) silent comedy about two men trapped in mindless office jobs; and Dance United presents new work from Russell Maliphant & more in Destino On The Road; while May brings the amazing Gob Squad back to Contact with Kitchen (You’ve Never Had It So Good), a new live film with bad coffee, nervous breakdowns, wild parties and modern hairstyles.
There are more opportunities than ever to get involved at Contact with auditions for Contact Young Actors Company and performance workshops throughout the season, or if you’re more interested in getting behind the scenes then join Contact Young Tech Team, or send them your writing for Verbally Challenged?
