Library Re-play festival
The Library Theatre’s second annual Re:Play Festival, comprising some of the best new theatre seen in some of Manchester and Salford’s non-traditional theatre venues in 2008, opens on Tuesday 20 January 2009.
The opening play is A Dog Called Redemption, (pictured, right) Matthew Landers’ Manchester Evening News Theatre Award-winning production about two vagrants looking for hope beyond the pavements.
A further five plays will be performed during the festival, including the highly acclaimed Tape and The Bench.
Altogether, six different plays will be performed three times in Re:Play 2009. FirstStage, a new ideas workshop, and the Re:Play Debate, a discussion on the future direction of the city’s independent theatre scene chaired by actor Wyllie Longmore, completes the festival’s programme of events.
“Last year’s festival was a huge success,” says the Library Theatre’s Artistic Director, Chris Honer. Manchester’s independent theatre scene is thriving, and Re:Play gives the public a great chance to some terrific work when they might not otherwise have had the opportunity.”
A brochure with full details of the festival and performance schedule is available at selected venues throughout Greater Manchester, and it can also be downloaded from the theatre’s website. Tickets start from £8 (£7 concessions), with generous discounts available for people seeing two or more shows.
