Coliseum premieres Bollywood Heights
The Oldham Coliseum has unveiled their new season and the highlights include Only When I Laugh, a new comedy written by and starring Jack Shepherd, best known for his role as Detective Superintendant Charles Wycliffe. There is also the premiere of a Bollywood version of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, by leading British Asian Company Tamasha.
Sticking with the musical theme, Quartet is a comical and touching play about four characters, once stars of the opera world, who must now learn to live with their memories and with each other. It stars Kenneth Alan Taylor, previous Artistic Director of the Coliseum.
Audience favourite Blithe Spirit, as voted for by the Coliseum patrons. Noel Coward’s hilarious play tells the tale of novelist Charles Condomine who, after attempting to liven up a dinner party with a seance, really wished he hadn’t when his deceased first wife makes an unwelcome appearance.
As well as all this, the Coliseum has even more packed into its programme, with one night events such as ABBA tribute band, Voulez Vous and Sing-a-long-a Hairspray. There is plenty in store for the children too as the Coliseum presents a range of children’s shows at Uppermill Civic Hall and Coldhurst Lifelong Learning Centre.
Kevin Shaw, Chief Executive of the Coliseum Theatre comments, “I’m absolutely delighted by the choice of plays and events which we have planned for the new season.
There really is something for everyone – plays such as Blithe Spirit and Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis promise to have the audience rolling in the aisles whilst for those who want something a little different, Tamasha’s Bollywood version of Wuthering Heights promises to be a great hit.”
