Behind You! What to see this Xmas

Pantomimes continue to be family favourites at Christmas and we have our fair share in the North West this festive season. But there are plenty of alternatives for those of you wanting something different.

The race has already begun with Oldham’s Coliseum already wowing critics with their Aladdin.

Martin Daniels and Lisa Riley star in Stockport Plaza’s panto, Cinderella which opens on Thursday, 11th December and runs until 11th January. Tickets are priced £10.00- £14.50.

Meanwhile, the Opera House is getting ready for Peter Pan, starring Manchester’s own, John Thompson and Gemma Atkinson. Tickets are priced between £4.75 (for children on certain days) and £23.50.

If musicals are preferable to the jokes and sweets, then the Palace welcomes Mary Poppins from Thursday 11th December. You will have plenty of time to catch the flying nanny as she is staying until 7th March, 2009. Or how about watching Lorna Luft follow in her mother’s footsteps in the Lowry‘s version of The Wizard Of Oz, playing the Wicked Witch Of The West, currently playing until Sunday 4th January.

Or, if you fancy a classic comedy, how about ‘Allo ‘Allo playing at the Lowry until 10th January. Talking of The Lowry, from the 27th December, they are recapturing that festive feeling with The Night Before Christmas which is in their Studio until Sunday, 4th January.

The Library Theatre does Dickens with their adaptation of Great Expectations, which is selling really well and showing until 20th January. The Octagon also stick to a tried and tested formula for success with their delightful take on Roald Dahl‘s Danny, the Champion of the World.

Lastly, the Royal Exchange have gone for a farce, in See How They Run, which was revived in the West End recently and proved to be a hit. It stars ‘Allo ‘Allo actor Arthur Bostrum and promises to be a riot.

Whatever you see this Christmas, have a great time!
