The Speed Of Dating returns to Taurus
Manchester Comedy Festival are proudly supporting ‘The Speed of Dating’; the laugh out loud anti-dating guide.
After playing to sell out crowds this August it returns for two nights only. Sarah Emmott is back with as Alice in this one hour, one woman, comedy showdown.
Salford University graduate Sarah Evans has been writing comedy for the past three years but has finally written her first one woman comedy, based on some of her own experiences as a bisexual woman. The 24 year old certainly has a story or two to tell of crazy, ridiculous experiences on dates, which she has cleverly woven into The Speed of Dating.
“I feel awful for anyone who has actually been on a date with me! I suppose in a way, I really am Alice; I say all the wrong things at all the wrong times but since writing The Speed of Dating I’ve realised that quite a few other people are too”
“There was such a positive reaction to the last run at Taurus Bar, it was fantastic, the audience really seemed to relate to Alice in so many ways. Even though some of Alice’s experiences are sometimes verging on ridiculous, it seems more people than I thought experience those types of dates! It’s comforting to know that you’re not the only one who has been on dates where you’ve wanted to be swallowed up in embarrassment”
The idea started for the play when Sarah was approached to write a piece to fill a 10 minute slot for an all female Manchester arts night ‘Girls on Film’. The face paced, farcical comedy went down a storm, and was described as ‘the love child of Bill Hicks and Lee Evans.’
The Speed of Dating is now returning to Manchester; a place that holds a special place in the writer’s heart:
“Manchester is an amazing city and has got so much great fringe theatre to offer. It’s also my home so I feel really pleased, and proud that ‘The Speed of Dating’ has been so well received in Manchester. It’s great to be part of the Manchester Comedy Festival where there are so many great people performing in and around the city and I feel very proud that I live in a city that celebrate so many different types of comedy.”
The comedy hit returns to Taurus from 20th-21st October. Tickets are priced £5.
