Manchester Comedy Festival are proudly supporting ‘The Speed of Dating’; the laugh out loud anti-dating guide.

After playing to sell out crowds this August  it returns for two nights only. Sarah Emmott is back with as Alice in this one hour, one woman, comedy showdown.

Salford University graduate Sarah Evans has been writing comedy for the past three years but has finally written her first one woman comedy, based on some of her own experiences as a bisexual woman. The 24 year old certainly has a story or two to tell of crazy, ridiculous experiences on dates, which she has cleverly woven into The Speed of Dating.

“I feel awful for anyone who has actually been on a date with me! I suppose in a way, I really am Alice; I say all the wrong things at all the wrong times but since writing The Speed of Dating I’ve realised that quite a few other people are too” (more…)

We are offering you a pair of tickets for opening night at premiere of Australian Ballet’s Swan Lake at the Lowry.

THE BALLET:
Australian Ballet’s Swan Lake premieres at the Lowry from Tue 14 – Sat 18 October. Set to Tchaikovsky’s immortal music, this unique production is made more exceptional by its collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The first time in recent history that the Orchestra have accompanied a ballet performance, this is also their debut appearance at The Lowry.

One of the richest and most extravagant experiences of dance to be seen in The Lowry’s theatres, this masterpiece has sold out more than 150 performances since its première at the State Theatre in Melbourne in 2002. Featuring more than 70 dancers, ravishing sets and costumes, the work contrasts heartbreaking duets with lavish scenes at the Royal Court and by the frozen lake, a dreamlike setting where Odette seeks solace from her turbulent marriage to Prince Siegfried.

Can you imagine getting in the shower with the Almighty? Russell Howard can, and does so in just one of the many flights of surreal fancy which fill his latest comedy tour, ‘Dingledodies’.

Best known for BBC2’s Mock the Week, Howard is a rising talent and this is his third consecutive sell out tour. His theme on this tour is to celebrate the weird and the offbeat in everyday life, from the interactions of parents and children to the chance meetings of strangers on the streets. Unlike many current comedians his outlook is warm and optimistic which leads to a hugely enjoyable show.

The night starts with the support act, Steve Hall, who does his job with style, energising and exciting the audience ready for the main act. (more…)

The new production from the Rambert Dance Company begins with a series of endings. Eternal Light is a requiem for lost rainforests and extinct species. It shows the fear,and acceptance of death, along with the possibility of rebirth and details specific events. A crimson-lit stage overhung with crosses embedded with sparkling Swarovski crystals provides the background for a stirring dance to commemorate the fields at Flanders.

The requiem is a collaboration between artistic director Mark Baldwin and British composer Howard Goodall. It is a lush production featuring all 19 members of the dance company and live choral music beautifully sung by the Manchester University Chamber Choir, Ad Solem, with soloists Elizabeth Atherton and Adrian Powter. Widely recognised as one of Britain’s finest orchestras, the BBC Philharmonic has its own recording studio at BBC Manchester where it records programmes and concerts for Radio 3. It also performs around 20 concerts a year at Manchester’s magnificent Bridgewater Hall. The Philharmonic has built a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality and committed performances over a wide-ranging repertoire.   (more…)
