Aimee Mann returns to Academy, Oct

To celebrate Aimee Mann’s seventh album, “@#%&! Smilers,” the popular singer, best known for the Magnolia film soundtrack, for which she was nominated for an Oscar, has announced a UK tour, stopping off at Manchester in October.
The new album marks a departure for Mann. “The sound is a little bit different for me,” Mann told Billboard.com. “It’s got a lot of Moog (synthesizer) on it (and) sometimes almost sounds like the Cars a little bit. From song to song, everything gets a different treatment.”
For the past eight years, Mann has been releasing her work independently, gaining her a faithful following.
Aimee Mann appears at Academy 1 on 22 October. Tickets are available from the usual outlets, including ticketline, See tickets and Zavvi.
