Keith Jack talks to WOS Manchester
April 11, 2008

Keith Jack (pictured) is currently starring as the narrator in the Bill Kenwright tour of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which opens at the Palace Theatre, Manchester on the 28th April.
Following his appearance on reality show, Any Dream Will Do, Keith has not stopped working. He has been attached to many projects, according the gossip magazines.
But, how many of the rumours are true?
He currently has two jobs; one as the narrator in Bill Kenwright’s tour of Joseph, alongside Craig Chalmers in the lead role. The other, supporting John Barrowman on selected dates of the Torchwood star/Reality Judge’s UK tour.
With I’d Do Anything currently showing on BBC1, we asked Keith what he thinks of reality TV shows, as well as finding out his future plans.
He also talks about his favourite show Blood Brothers, his idol Elton John and about audiences on the tour.
Place of birth
Dalkeith in Scotland (nothing to do with my name)
Lives now in
Out of a suitcase!
What made you audition for Any Dream Will Do?
It was my friend who told me about it and I thought I could be a ‘Joseph’.
What would you have done professionally if you weren’t in musical theatre?
Teach
Is there anyone you would still like to meet and why?
I would like to meet Elton John, I think he is amazing and would love to write songs with him.
What do you like about performing the role of the narrator in Joseph?
It’s a great role because I’m the story-teller on stage, and I also have some great songs in the show.
How do audiences differ from city to city?
Sometimes they are very loud, and other times they are quite reserved and like to listen.
What was the last thing you saw on stage that you really enjoyed and why?
Blood Brothers. I love the musical and one day would like to be in it.
And the first?
One of the first I can remember was Joseph.
If you could swap places with one person (living or dead) for a day, who would it be?
I would like to swap places with Simon Cowell to see what and how busy his life really is.
Favourite books
I don’t read books, even when I was a kid I did not read. I really should start.
Have you managed to see Lee, Ben or Daniel in the West End yet?
I saw Lee on his opening night and when i finish in Joseph, I will see Danny and Ben.
What can people expect from Joseph, the tour?
It is just a great family show, it’s full of energy and it will really get you laughing and singing along and it is easy to follow.
Why do think the show is doing so well after all these years?
Purely the fact that it is a great family show and people just keep coming to see it.
You had huge support, following the tv show. There are rumours of an album and a part in Flashdance . Is any of this true?
There is an album coming out with new songs and some from the show. Flashdance was just an audition.
Does the constant “from Tesco to Joseph tour” tag irritate you? You have studied musical theatre, after all.
I did start a musical theatre course but did not finish it because I went straight into the touring show.
What’s your view, regarding critics who argue that reality shows like Any Dream Will Do and I’d Do Anything manipulate viewers and contestants?
I know that reality television is looked down on by some people, but for me it is giving people the chance to be seen by the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber and John Barrowman which is a chance I would not have got without it.
Is it true you are supporting John Barrowman on some his live dates?
I am singing with John and David at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on his tour. I am really looking forward to it.
Which current West End musicals would you like to be in?
Either Wicked or Phantom Of The Opera.
What are your plans when the tour is over?
Looking at new shows, doing my album, panto at christmas and auditions for parts in other productions.
