March 31, 2008

This competition is now closed and the answer is The Big Friendly Giant.

Congratulations to Diane Smith, Clare Bullen & Shirley Moulds. Enjoy the play!

The world’s very first theatre tour of Roald Dahl’s Danny the Champion of the World comes to Palace Theatre from 8th-12th April.

Danny the Champion of the World was first published in 1975 and tells the story of Danny, a young boy who lives in a caravan with his Dad, the most marvellous and exciting Dad any boy ever had. But his father has a secret! When night comes, he poaches pheasants from Hazell’s Wood. Mr Hazell, the biggest landowner in the district, wants to evict them both and the battle is quickly on to save their home. But how can one little boy defeat a rich and powerful landowner? Danny has a plan - and soon he and his Dad are caught up in a thrilling and remarkable adventure! The book was also turned into a film in 1989 starring Jeremy Irons as Dad & his real son, Sam, played Danny.

This wonderfully exciting and funny theatre production is being toured by Birmingham Stage Company who are acknowledged as one of the leading theatre producers of top class family entertainment in the UK and have, during the past 14 years, successfully brought five of Roald Dahl’s most popular children’s books to the stage.

Roald Dahl died 16 years ago but his books still sell in their millions across the world and he remains one of the most popular children’s authors ever, and last summer his characters such as the BFG were featured strongly in the special 80th birthday party for H.M. the Queen at Buckingham Palace celebrating British children’s literature. Now there’s a chance to see one of his loveliest and most sensitively written books brought to life at Palace Theatre for the very first time.
