The world’s very first theatre tour of Roald Dahl’s Danny the Champion of the World comes to Palace Theatre from 8th-12th April.

Danny the Champion of the World was first published in 1975 and tells the story of Danny, a young boy who lives in a caravan with his Dad, the most marvellous and exciting Dad any boy ever had. But his father has a secret! When night comes, he poaches pheasants from Hazell’s Wood. Mr Hazell, the biggest landowner in the district, wants to evict them both and the battle is quickly on to save their home. But how can one little boy defeat a rich and powerful landowner? Danny has a plan - and soon he and his Dad are caught up in a thrilling and remarkable adventure! The book was also turned into a film in 1989 starring Jeremy Irons as Dad & his real son, Sam, played Danny.

This wonderfully exciting and funny theatre production is being toured by Birmingham Stage Company who are acknowledged as one of the leading theatre producers of top class family entertainment in the UK and have, during the past 14 years, successfully brought five of Roald Dahl’s most popular children’s books to the stage. Opening: The Arab & The Jew at Contact

March 27, 2008

Drawing on personal experiences of the Arab / Israeli divide, this explosive physical performance takes us on a journey through brotherhood, loyalty and conflict.

Plummeting onto the stage, Al and Amit tumble from scene to scene with characteristic physical skill. They invite the audience into their territory and engage in a careful ‘dance’ of reason and conciliation, exploring the deep-rooted allegiances that simmer beneath the surface.

Together they explore their personal identities and the complex dynamics of their relationship. The diverse soundtrack and powerful visual direction will move, excite and involve its audiences.

Amit Lahav comments: “In many ways our artistic sensibilities are born out of our non-English backgrounds. We share an exuberance and otherness with which we express ourselves and communicate artistically; a direct influence from our parents, grandparents and relatives and our experiences. The co-existence of these differing inner loyalties was the starting point of a new Gecko show - a two-hander involving the company’s two artistic directors..” Read more
