February 7, 2008

Following a highly successful three and a half year run and over 1000 performances at the Prince Edward Theatre in London’s West End, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s award-winning musical Mary Poppins embarks on a major international tour in 2008.

It opens at the Palace Theatre, Manchester on 10 December 2008 where it plays until 7 March 2009. Tickets for the hit Disney show at the Palace Theatre will be on sale to the public from FRIDAY 8TH FEBRUARY at 10.00am. For ticketing and booking information, please see below.

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s internationally renowned and multi award-winning creative team assembled for Mary Poppins is led by stage and film director Richard Eyre. Co-direction & choreography is by Matthew Bourne, with co-choreography by Stephen Mear. Bob Crowley has designed the sets and costumes.

The show includes many of the original songs from the film with music and lyrics by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman. The new stage production has been created, in collaboration with Cameron Mackintosh, by Oscar-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes who has written the book, and the Olivier award-winning British team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe who have written the new songs and additional music and lyrics.

The London production has won many prestigious awards including an Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreography (Matthew Bourne and Stephen Mear), the Variety Club Award for Best Musical and the Evening Standard Award for Best Set Design (Bob Crowley) and our very own Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Design (Bob Crowley).

The Broadway production opened last autumn to tremendous acclaim and quickly became one of the biggest hits of the 06/07 season. It recently won the Tony® Award for Best Set Design (Bob Crowley) and continues to consistently be one of the top four weekly grossing shows on Broadway.
