Queer Up North Saved

The Arts Council have made a U-turn as they have decided to continue funding queerupnorth for the 2008/9 year. Funding beyond this period will be decided by the Arts Council following a review of QUN’s work over the next few months – including the May 2008 festival.

This year’s programme includes Tough Time, Nice Time, by radical theatre troupe Ridiculusmus and The Fairy Godfather of Hollywood, avant-garde performer Bette Bourne’s show about the life and times of Hollywood screen icon Rock Hudson.

Jonathan Best, Artistic Director of Queer Up North is delighted at the news and said: “We’re very pleased that the Arts Council has taken on board the points in our appeal and we look forward to a constructive working relationship in the future. There’s lots of good news today, and we are particularly pleased for the four organisations in the North West region that have had a funding uplift.”

“We look forward to reviewing with the Arts Council all of Queer Up North’s work – the 2008 festival, our ambitious touring and commissioning plans for 2009 and beyond, and our unique programme of work with young people across Greater Manchester and the UK.”

Queer Up North runs from 7-27 May, 2008.
