What’s On Stage in 2008

There are so many great productions opening in 2008 that’s it’s hard to know where to start. But, here goes as WOS Manchester guides you through what we think will be the ‘ones to watch.’

The Glass Menagerie – Royal Exchange- 9th April- 24th May

Highly anticipated and booking very well, this looks set to win plaudits and audience acclaim as Brenda Blethyn (pictured) steps back into the unforgiving round at the Royal Exchange. Following hard on the Hollywood heels of Jessica Lange as Amanda, Blethyn will equal ‘full house’ notices!

Waiting For Godot- The Library Theatre- 1st February- 8th March

Before it was cast, this production had a buzz surrounding it, but now that David Neilson (Roy Cropper from Coronation Street) is on board, the omens look very good, indeed. So much more than a school party outing- this one is worth waiting for!

Hello Dolly – The Lowry- 4th March – 8th March

Darren Day is currently on dazzling form in the Lowry’s panto but this is where this underrated musical star will excel – back in his most comfortable genre. With Anita Dobson as Dolly, this really does look like it could be a real old fashioned treat.

Mary Poppins- The Palace- 10th December 2008- 8th March 2009

Okay, so this one is a long way off. But that doesn’t stop you from day dreaming about everyone’s favourite flying nanny. Matthew Bourne is on dance duty here and if you have seen this ‘practically perfect’ West End hit, you know this is one super show.

The Children’s Hour- The Royal Exchange- 5th March – 5th April

If you have seen the little seen film starring Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine, you know what to expect. If you haven’t, you are in for a night of pure bliss. A small girl witnesses two women kiss and this gossip spreads across town like a wild bush fire- leading to heartache. But is the tale a lie? Win tickets in our competition!

This is just a taster of what’s coming up. Check WOS Listings for further details.

Happy New Year!
