October 25, 2007

The highly acclaimed playwright, author and songwriter, Willy Russell returns to Manchester following his In Other Words tour with Tim Firth (pictured left). The man of many talents will star in his one man show An Audience With Willy Russell at the Lowry (Studio) on Wed 28 November.
Russell is well known as the writer of plays and films such as Educating Rita, Shirley Valentine, Our Day Out, and the musical Blood Brothers.
His first novel, The Wrong Boy, was published in 2000, has been translated into fifteen languages and is currently being adapted for a major television series.
He wrote the lyrics and the score for Blood Brothers (in continuous production for the past twenty-odd years). Add to this the fact that he has provided the scores for the feature films Shirley Valentine, Dancin’ Thru The Dark and Mr Love as well as for the TV series Connie and the television play Terraces.
Willy’s first CD release – Hoovering the Moon - was also well received.
Following the In Other Words tour, Russell and Firth took the show to the Edinburgh Festival with a new title - The Singing Playwrights. If you admire the man’s work and want to get up, close and personal- the Lowry’s excellent Studio is the certainly the ideal venue.
