Library has Faith in Friel, Exchange Flags twice

October 23, 2007

Following their huge success with the Brian Friel classic, Dancing At Lughnasa, (pictured) The Library Theatre bring his Faith Healer to the stage.

Frank Hardy travels round the sleepy backwaters of rural Wales and Scotland dispensing his talents as a faith healer. His wife, Grace, travels with him, as does his manager, the sweet-talking Teddy, who could charm the birds off the trees, and much else besides. Each have a different take on Frank’s skills as a faith healer.

Faith Healer will be directed by Roger Haines, whose recent productions of Brian Friel plays, Translations, which won the coveted Best Production award at the Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards, and Dancing at Lughnasa  were both hits for the Library.

Faith Healer opens on 26 October and runs until 17 November.

Meanwile the Royal Exchange is restaging two plays which started life in their studio. The Flags and The Conversation are both promoted to the main house, following praise from audiences and critics last year.

The Flags follows JJ and Howie, two life guards on the second worst beach in Ireland. The job running the best beach in the country is unexpectedly vacant and these two are determined to clean up their acts and get the job. The trouble is JJ and Howie are not very good at being lifeguards. In fact, they’re alarmingly bad…

The Coversation features two families who meet in a single room, united by a terrible crime. The Milsoms have lost their daughter to a murderer and rapist. The Williams are the family of the killer. What happens in the aftermath of the worst crime imaginable? What responsibility do we have for crimes committed by our family and what hope is there for healing in the face of indescribable anger and revenge?

The Flags is directed by Greg Hersov. It runs from 23 October to 3 November.

The Conversation is directed by Jacob Murray and runs from 14 November until 8 December.
