National Theatre Rafta Rafta follows Chatroom to Lowry

October 15, 2007

RaftaThe National Theatre and The Lowry continue to enhance their fruitful partnership. Following the success of The History Boys, The Seafarer and Chatroom/Citizenship, Rafta Rafta arrives in Salford on tour.

This hit play starred Meera Syal and Bollywood actor Harish Patel in London. Casting for the UK tour has yet to be announced.

The wedding feast is over and his father’s dancing the bhangra, but the groom himself is busy on the net. When it’s time for bed, he’s so woefully inhibited by the proximity of his parents, let alone his brother’s childish pranks, that his beautiful virgin bride remains just that. Six weeks later, the whole family start to panic.

This warm-hearted, comic tale of close-knit Indian family life in England (by the author of East is East, Ayub Khan-Din) opens at the Lowry from 19-23 February, 2008.
