Manchester Festival- Monkey Magic
July 1, 2007
With BBC News 24 analysing the movements of the Glasgow and London foiled attacks in such minute details, it really is worth leaving the house, otherwise you will end up going stir crazy with fear. Luckily there is lots going on within this fine city to take your mind off current, shocking events.
The Manchester Festival is now in full swing. With so much to see, it’s hard to know where to begin. But a good start is the official website which is really user friendly and full of helpful information about each piece. My tips are much like anyone elses really. But there are three productions that look like dead certs:
Monkey at the Palace Theatre which has received many plaudits since opening the festival last week. I am lucky enough to be seeing this spectacular looking show for myself on Wednesday.
The Pianist also looks really intriguing. Staged in a warehouse at the Manchester Science Museum, this really does look like a unique performance.
Monster also looks worth catching at the Royal Exchange Studio. A fellow reviewer, Kevin Bourke at the MEN has raved about this play and it does look like a real winner.
Manchester seems to be the place to be with this festival, Barbra Streisand appearing at the MEN Arena and Bruntwood award winning Pretend You Have Big Buildings at the Royal Exchange soon.
I am going to catch Into The Woods at the Lowry, Monkey and hopefully, The Pianist.
In the meantime, please check out the festival as it really will make you proud to be living here.
