Any Dream Will Do- The Semi Final
June 3, 2007
I know this isn’t spefically Manchester news, but let’s face it, we are all watching it! Grease Is The What, anyone? I don’t know about you, but I expected a decent semi final, whereby the guys attempted to wipe the floor with each other. But there was something lacking and part of this was down to (as always) the songs! “Could It Be Magic”, “Sweet Caroline” and “Ease On Down The Road” might have been great on the show Seaside Special on a Saturday night, but this is 2007! In Heat magazine, the Lord said that he was not allowed to keep choosing musical songs as it would be seen as false advertising? The whole show itself is an advert, for a musical which is about to open!
As for the performers-
Keith was great vocally but there was not much going on behind the eyes. He is superb singer and could carry the role off with some training re injecting emotion into a song.
Ben did ok with a terrible song but performed incredibly well throughout the rest of the show. He should not have gone home.
Lewis was pure cheese until Oh What A Circus, when he earned his stripes, just.
Lee has a huge fan base, but his appeal has passed me by. He seems too serious and earnest and lacks the playfulness we keep being told a Joseph needs. I also still have issues with the fact that he has loads of experience. Look at the clip of him backstage at LOTR- to highlight my point. He looked like it was just another job, whereas the other boys looked genuinely thrilled to be there.
If you want missed the show last night and want a recap, click here.
Next week, going back to Manchester theatre, I will be reviewing at the Lowry again! (I love the place). They have a diverse couple of plays next week- Office Suite in the Lyric and Angels In America in the Quays. Until then, have a good Sunday. VOTE KEITH!
