What’s on in Manchester this Easter?

You may find yourself wanting to venture to the theatre this Easter, rather than sat on the motorway in a traffic jam - trying to escape. To be honest, there is a great deal on offer to keep you busy the during extended break.

OH WHAT A CIRCUS!

Circuses have become really unfashionable and let’s face it - cruel. But one show aims to have an old fashioned feel but with the added attraction of music and lights- without animals. The show is called Eclipse and it is coming to the Lowry for two weeks from Tues 02 April. The show has been a hit at the Pleasure Beach, Blackpool and is much better and slicker than you would expect. I caught it last October and was very impressed. It is on until Sat 14 April. I will be reviewing this show here and at www.broadwayworld.com next week.

I WANNA BE A PRODUCER
Peter Kay continues the have audiences in stiches as Roger De Bris in Mel Brooks’ hit show The Producers @ the Palace Theatre. This excellent show has been praised by the local press and is playing until 12th May.

SINGING INTO YOUR HAIRBRUSH
If this is more preferable and you fancy some cheese, then either Girls Night or Fame could be just the ticket. Both open on Monday 2nd April for one week, at the Lowry and Opera House, respectively. I am not the biggest Fame fan as you will know if you have read this review but if the cast are good, often they can rise above the sometimes risible material.

RIVERDANCE
This show needs no introduction. It has been popular for ages now and continues to pack out venues across the world. The latest tour opens in Manchester at the Opera House on Monday 9th April. If you are local you will know that the Opera House is relatively small for this type of show but the sad rumour is that the taped tap is back with no band! I hope this is not the case but you can find out when I review the show itself. Go to www.whatsonstage on Tues 10th April to find out what the WOS view is.

DRAMA AND COMEDY

If you fancy a blindingly good drama which left this reviewer impressed then go and see the wonderful Royal Exchange production of Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf. Lastly if comedy is more your bag, especially if it’s romantic then Chapter Two should keep you happy as you gorge on chocolate over the break. This Neil Simon classic is on at the Library Theatre which reopens on Tuesday, 3rd April, running until Saturday 14th April.

Whatever you get up to this Easter, have a good one! rolleyes.gif
