Five Reasons to See … Marc Hogan’s Actions Speak Louder Than Birds
August 29, 2009
Marc Hogan, whose ‘day job’ is as a corporate trainer, makes his stage debut at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe with his one-man comedy show Actions Speak Louder Than Birds at Zoo Southside. Here are his further instructions as to why you should see his show.
1) I need your help to win a £1 bet.
Eleven months ago, I was happily making a living as a corporate communications speaker training people to deliver presentations and improve their sales. Then another trainer told me I was “quite funny” and challenged me to become a stand-up comic with a show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2009 for £1. Back in 2008, £1 was a lot of money. So for the last 11 months, I’ve spent every waking hour writing, practising and generally scaring myself witless about performing the show.
2) It has an award-winning director and producer.
You may not have heard of me, but don’t fear, the show has been steered along by the hands of a comedy genius – Phil Whelans, who has directed and co-written the show. Phil’s many successes include directing Phil Nichol’s if.comedy award (formerly Perrier) winning Edinburgh 2006 show and he’s currently writing for Jason Byrne’s Radio 4 show. What’s more, the show is produced by Amused Moose doyenne of comedy, Hils Jago.
3) You’ll love this show if you love wildlife.
Have you ever hugged a koala? Wanted to swim with a dolphin? Like walking in woods? Or thought swans were serene and majestic? Well, after you’ve seen this show, you may need to rethink…
4) Perhaps it’ll inspire you to do the things you never thought you could.
Perhaps you’ve wanted to jump out of a plane, perform a one-man / woman show, become a pop star. After you see this show, you’ll see that anything is possible.
5) It’s unlike any comedy show you’ve seen before.
How many comedy shows have videos, Victorians, graphs and origami? Trust me, this will be unlike any other comedy show you’ll see at the Fringe. And as my mum said at the last preview, “it was much better than I thought it would be”.
Marc Hogan’s Actions Speak Louder Than Birds is at Zoo Southside, 7-30 August at 7.15pm.
