Fringe Box Office Breaks £250,000 on On First Day

The first day of ticket sales to the general public for the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe has ended with the box office surpassing all previous records having sold tickets in excess of £275,000.

Tickets had been available online and by telephone from 10.00am on Monday 15 June, whilst the box office on the High Street opened to the public at midday. A queue was forming outside the distinctive High Street box office nearly four hours before it opened. Read more

63rd Edinburgh Fringe Programme Launched Today

Denise Van OutenThe 2009 Edinburgh Fringe programme, published today (10 June 2009), features a record-breaking 2,098 shows – ten more than last year. The 63rd annual Festival Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival, runs this year from 7 to 31 August 2009 and involves an estimated 18,901 performers from over 60 countries presenting 34,265 performances of those shows in 265 venues. Following its long association with drinks company Perrier and the ending of its more recent partnership with Scotland-based mortgage company Intelligent Finance (See News, 14 Jun 2006), the Edinburgh Fringe’s most prestigious comedy prize is being rebranded again this year and will now be known simply as the Edinburgh Comedy Awards (shortened to the ‘Eddies’).
