Same old songDate: 21 December 2009 It's ironic this morning that internet junkies are celebrating the fact that the X Factor machine has been defeated. True, it has been a successful campaign but which song has beaten the Miley Cyrus cover version? An oldie from the nineties, so therefore it hardly heralds the arrival of new music.
Looking through some of the listings for 2010 on the Manchester theatre scene and it is a case of the same old song there too. Whistle Down The Wind is back, as is The Woman In Black. The return of Riverdance next April reminds you that there is no such thing as a farewell tour. Just ask Cher!
So, we look to the Royal Exchange for the classic A Raisin' In The Sun - but this was at the Lowry only a few years ago. 1984 looks like it could be a winner and the Library Theatre are doing Mamet with the brilliant Glengarry Glen Ross.
But before you get too excited, Calendar Girls is back for the third time in one year. Fair enough, the show is popular and sells out on each visit. But, where is the new theatre?
Bah Humbug!
