Starlight Express cast steam into WOS meet & greet

Date: 16 May 2012

This week (15 May 2012) over 150 Whatonstage.com theatregoers enjoyed an Outing to the New Wimbledon Theatre for a new touring production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express. Produced by Bill Kenwright productions, the show made its tour debut on 10 May 2012 and will be playing at various venues across the country from 29 May when it hits Bradford's Alhambra Theatre.

We just missed Andrew Lloyd Webber, who visited the production a few days earlier on the 12 May. He better have had his 3D glasses at the ready as the race sequences of the original show have been replaced with exciting new 3D footage. First performed back in 1984, this hit rock musical tells the story of a group of toy trains, competing in a series of races and controlled by a little boy playing way past his bed time. Most famous for depicting its actors on roller skates to gain a train-like motion, it became one of the longest running musicals in the West End's history.

Following the performance, many of the theatregoers remained behind for our post-show meet and greet with the cast. With such complex costumes and make-up, the actors had to allow a little time to change, but the wait was worth it. Many of the stars, including Kristofer Harding as hero Rusty, joined us for a drink and a chat. The cast remaining in their roller skates all evening was probably a little too much to expect, but a great night was had by all as they shared with us their excitement about the upcoming tour.

We do hope you enjoyed this evening as much as we did and please do send us your thoughts on the show as well as any photos you have from last night through to feedback@whatsonstage.com. We love to hear from you!
