WOS Outing Tackles Race & Memory in the Park
Date: 1 March 2011

Last night, over 100 eager Whatsonstage.com theatregoers went to the Wyndham's Theatre to watch Bruce Norris's satirical rumination on racism in 1950s and modern day America.

Clybourne Park opens with a middle aged couple in the midst of packing up their house. Soon we learn however that their house move won't be easy, their neighbours having discovered that an African American family are the buyers and will soon become their neighbours.!

Recently transferred from the Royal Court, this production made for a fantastic Outing. Sophie Thompson giving a hysterical performance as both Bev andKathy, the suburban wife with her obsessive enthusiasm and questionable motives.

Also noteworthy were performances by Sarah Goldberg as Betsy and Lindsey, a deaf-mute who kept the theatregoers feeling slightly uneasy but still laughing. The sassy Lorna Brown (Francine/Lena) and Lucian Msamati (Albert/Kevin) were outstanding as the African American couple who eventually manage to carve out some well deserved recognition for themselves.

From the outrageous jokes, to its stunning insight into human hypocrisy, Clybourne Park is undoubtedly moving, highly relevant and unforgettable. With Dominic Cooke's clever directing, and an incredible cast performance, theatregoers were delighted by such a unique production.

Please email any initial reactions from the play, as well as photos from Monday night’s event through to feedback@whatsonstage.com. We would love to hear from you!

Thank you to our theatregoers for making Clybourne Park such a memorable evening and we hope you will join us for the next outing.
