One Man, Two Guvnors (Tour – Blackpool)

Wow! I have never noticed what a beautiful theatre the Blackpool grand is. Why am I saying this? Well the 3D style staging for the hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors really brings out the majesty of this marvellous venue.

Richard Bean‘s brilliant play is enhanced by a gorgeous set incredibly swift scene changes which make the piece more believable. This is classic comedia, with a modern twist on the comedia dell arte play A Servant of Two Masters now transferred to 1960s Brighton and it works wonderfully.

The cast play the stock characters to perfection. Led by Rufus Hound who works the audience so well and his comic background shines through whilst still managing to stay true to the harlequin motivations of food and sex. Likewise  Blackpool’s finest Jodie Prenger is in fine fettle and in full force as Hound’s love interest and the book- keeper of the Clench family.

Both actors are joined by an energetic and strong cast, including Alastair Coomer and Charlotte Sutton who both shine every time they are on stage. As an added bonus. the audience also gets to tap their feet to the music of The Craze throughout – transporting you back to the 1960s with ease.

Due to the deft direction, terrific turns, superb slapstick, and magnificent music, One Man Two Guvnors is a completely unmissable gag-fest.
