Bottled Wasps (Greater Manchester Fringe Festival)

Venue: Kings Arms
Where: Salford

With a title like Bottled Wasps I expected a production buzzing with energy and expectation but came away very disappointed.

Ex-soldier and landlord Walter is a loose cannon who thinks nothing of waving around a rifle and takes aback Patrick and his lover Grace when they return to his hotel with romantic memories after they had left their respective spouses for one another.

Sadly there is little interaction between the lovers played by Hayden Thomas and Marie Westcott and the reaction of Walter (James Dunn) when Patrick accidentally shoots off his toe doesn’t ring true.

The toe incident could be down to the writing and I did enjoy James’s impression of Punch and Judy but this is not a play I would want to see again.
