Troop tour physical Macbeth to Salford, Oldham, Preston & Bury

Troop, a local physical theatre company, bring their take on Shakespeare’s Macbeth to audiences across the North-West beginning this week.

Described as “a fast-paced physical show with martial arts” – the piece is directed by twice MEN Theatre Award winner, Wyllie Longmore. He says of the production:“Macbeth is Shakespeare’s fastest and most thrilling play, designed to be played in one sitting. It therefore fits this dynamic style of presentation. The story drives forward all the time in a relentlessly gripping manner.”

The original score, is composed and performed live by Michael Cretu. Michael is an internationally recognised composer and double bassist, who worked with Wyllie and producer, Conor McKee, on their previous sell out shows at The Royal Exchange Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre and Contact.

Troop was formed by actor, fight choreographer and martial artist Kenan Ally. The company has a core membership of graduates from the Arden School of Theatre.

Wyllie Longmore said: “I think it’s important that drama students recognise that this kind of theatre making is possible. That, when they join together in a shared vision and start to create their own work, something very powerful can happen.”

Macbeth is at the Bury Met on 7 November, at the Preston Continental on the 8th, the Robert Powell Theatre, Salford University on the 13th, then continues at the Oldham Coliseum from 14 – 16 November.
