Five Reasons To See … Opera North’s The Queen of Spades

Opera North are bring a brand new production to the Lowry later this month – The Queen of Spades. We caught up with
Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts, who plays Herman in the production to give us his five reasons to see this Opera at The Lowry, Salford Quays.


1. A first!
This is director Neil Bartlett’s first full scale opera production.

2. Amazing costumes
Josephine Barstow, the Countess has a different costume every time she comes on stage. From a glamorous red ball gown to a sleek white nightie, every one will make your jaw drop.

3. Its BIG!
The production uses an extra 20 chorus members alongside the existing 30 strong Opera North Chorus plus a children’s chorus of 20, with children that have never sung on stage before.

4. The Music
Richard Farnes and the excellent Orchestra of Opera North play the wonderful romantic score form the genius that is Tchaikovsky!

5. One night only
There’s only one chance to catch The Queen of Spades at The Lowry so don’t miss it!
