Actress Pauline Daniels in sell-out mystery play
Tickets for a new mystery play at the Liverpool Actors Studio have sold out.
Starring the well known Birkenhead actress Pauline Daniels (Twopence to Cross the Mersey, Shirley Valentine, Dirty Dusting) and local BBC Radio Merseyside personality, Roger Phillips, The Night of January 12th opened this week at the Studio in Seel Street, Liverpool city centre, for five nights.
The play has been written by Hoylake-born Phil Pinnington, a former presenter and producer on BBC Radio Merseyside.
Speaking to Whatsonstage.com about the opening night, he said: “There was a certain amount of trepidation, as we’d only finished rehearsals 40 minutes before the play was due to begin.”
Pinnington, however, overcame his trepidation and singled out his former colleague for his performance. He added: “In the event it was a remarkably polished performance. Roger Phillips has four big scenes in act two and he was superb. The audience seemed to love it. It’s been a real thrill so far. The show’s sold out for the rest of the week and we think it’s going to be a winner.”
BBC Radio Merseyside’s Roger Phillips started his career as an actor before swapping the stage for the mic. This new play reunites him with Pauline Daniels with whom he last performed in the Everyman’s Elsie And Norm’s Macbeth in 1998.
Pinnington said the play is a mystery which becomes a ghost story and finally a tale of terror. It also co-stars Jimmy McCracken and Keir Howard.
The Night of January 12th runs until this Saturday, 28 November. There is no performance tonight.
Pauline Daniels (See Interview, 25 Sept 2009) is also set appear in the Floral Pavilion pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in New Brighton this Christmas.
