Palace stages Scrooge for early festive fun

Following his highly acclaimed turn in the UK tour of Doctor Dolittle, Tommy Steele brings some Christmas (Bah Humbug!) cheer to the Palace Theatre returning to the title role in Leslie Bricusse’s musical Scrooge.

The show last toured almost two years ago with ex Eastender Shane Ritchie playing the miser, Ebenezer Scrooge. 

Prior to this, the role has been played by Steele on tour and in the West End and earned great reviews. 

After a night facing the ghosts of his past, present and frightening future, Scrooge is transformed, his festive spirit restored. The score includes “I Hate Christmas”, “It’s Not My Fault”, “I’ll Begin Again” and “Better Life”.

Scrooge was originally a 1970 film starring Alec Guinness and Albert Finney. The musical by Leslie Bricusse – whose other major musicals include Stop the World – I Want to Get Off, Pickwick and Doctor Dolittle.

Michael Barrymore has also played the role on a previous UK tour. Due to the huge following that Steele garners, this story of Ebenezer looks set to sell out during its run at Manchester’s largest commerical theatre.

Scrooge opens at the Palace on 9 November and runs until 13 November.
