Dahl favourite back in the region

Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book, The BFG, makes a return to the North West stage with a visit to the Liverpool Playhouse next month.

Adapted by David Wood, the well-loved story of a dream-blowing, big friendly giant and orphan girl Sophie is being presented by Fiery Light.

The Northampton-based Royal & Derngate production visited Manchester’s Palace Theatre during the summer of this year, gaining good reviews.

The cast includes Adam Baxter as Sam Simkins, Darrell Brockis as Ronald Simkins, Becky John as Sophie, Anthony Pedley as The BFG, Heather Phoenix as the Queen of England and Louise Shuttleworth as Mary, maid to the Queen.

The BFG is directed by Phil Clark, designed by Sean Crowley with lighting design by Ceri James and sound design by Mike Bee. Composer is Paula Gardiner.

Director Phil Clark commented: “It’s important that young people experience the magic of live theatre. Our goal is to engage them in a fantastical world that has a real relevance to their lives.”

The BFG opens at the Liverpool Playhouse on Tuesday 3 November and runs until Saturday 7 November.
