Broadway South Pacific tours to Palace, 25 Oct

The first Broadway revival of South Pacific is headed for the Palace Theatre, following success at the Barbican in London.  Winner of seven 2008 Tony Awards and a sell out two year run and a filmed version for PBS on August 18, 2010, the show is touring venues in the UK including Manchester.

The original Broadway production was directed by Bartlett Sher and starred Matthew Morrison from Glee, alongside a cast of 40, led by three-time Tony nominee Kelli O’Hara (The Light in the Piazza) and Tony winner Paulo Szot. Sher also directed The Light in the Piazza and Awake and Sing!

The UK cast features Samathana Womack and Paulo Szot, Alex Fearns and Daniel Koek].

Although well known for its extraordinary score — the songs include “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Younger Than Springtime”, “Bali Ha’i”, “There Is Nothin’ Like A Dame”, and “A Wonderful Guy” the show portrays Americans stationed in an alien culture in wartime is as relevant today as when it first thrilled audiences in 1949.
