Bourne Again as Dorian Dances at Lowry

By • Northwest
The highly acclaimed choreographer who injects modern twists into old tales; Matthew Bourne returns to the region in October with his newest dance piece, Dorian Gray. Bourne’s latest creation comes to The Lowry after sell-out success in London and Edinburgh.

Based on Oscar Wilde’s gothic fable, it becomes a darkly seductive dance theatre event from a master storyteller. Set in the image obsessed world of contemporary art and politics, this black fairy tale tells the story of an exceptionally alluring young man who makes a pact with the devil. The piece has currently received a modern make-over in the guise of Oliver Parker's new film featuring History Boys star Ben Barnes.

Amongst London’s beautiful people, Dorian Gray the ‘It Boy’ - an icon of beauty and truth in an increasingly ugly world. The destructive power of beauty, the blind pursuit of pleasure and the darkness and corruption that lie beneath the charming façade, the themes behind Wilde’s cautionary tale, have never been more timely.

Dorian Gray runs at the Lowry from 21 to 24 Oct.

Tickets are priced £15 to £35 and you can get more details here or read our interview with Matthew Bourne.
