Local Guys and Dolls ready to Rock The Boat at Palace

100 local young people will take to the famous Palace Theatre stage to produce and perform the classic musical Guys and Dolls in showstopping style.

Following a year’s break in 2009, the Palace Theatre Manchester is once again opening its doors to the city’s young performers with another exciting Stage Experience. After a huge response to the auditions earlier in the year, Guys and Dolls has been fully cast with aspiring young performers from all over Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

The Stage Experience is an two week summer project which gives budding actors, singers and dancers aged 10 – 21, the chance to experience what it is like to work on a professionally run theatre production. With just two weeks to rehearse the show, build the sets, source the props and make the costumes, it promises to be a theatrical experience to remember.

The youngsters are currently rehearsing – leading up to their performances from Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th August.

Artistic director of the show, David McNeill, said: “It is a thrill to be working at the world-famous Palace Theatre, and especially with such talented youngsters.“If anyone doubts that young people are bursting with talent then look no further than the Palace, where the stage will explode with the very best talent that Manchester has to offer.”

Guys and Dolls – which was made into the classic 1955 film starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and Jean Simmons,  includes such classic musical numbers as Luck Be A Lady, Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat, Follow The Fold and If I Were a Bell.

New York in the 40s; small time gambler Nathan Detroit bets his big time pal Sky Masterson that he can’t make the next woman he sees fall in love with him. When the next doll happens to be the neighbourhood missionary Sarah Brown, the stage is set for an unforgettable evening’s entertainment!
