Hollyoaks‘ Lister in Godber’s Teechers at Lowry

Former Hollyoaks star Zoe Lister will tread the boards in Teechers, a raw and riotous look at life in a typical school. This classic comedy is one of BAFTA award-winning playwright John Godber’s most popular productions.

Lister said “I’m really excited to be working with John Godber and Hull Truck Theatre. Teechers is a fantastic play and a great challenge for an actor. I loved my time in Hollyoaks and spent three happy years playing Zoe; performing on stage is obviously a very different experience and Teechers will be a huge challenge as I will be playing 10 different characters each night! It will be demanding, but I’m really looking forward to getting out on the road.”

Teechers is set in a large secondary school, with characters that audiences will instantly recognise – the trendy young drama teacher, the deputy head who rules the school with an iron rod, the grumpy old caretaker and of course, the wayward mob of pupils. The three actors play a total of 20 roles.

Lister, who will play the role of Gail, is best known for her three years spent playing Zoe Carpenter in Hollyoaks and won Spectacular Scene of the Year at the British Soap Awards 2010 for The Parachute Jump. Teechers will also feature Claire Eden who toured with Hull Truck last year as part of the hugely successful Shakers tour. Peter McMillan will reprise his role as Salty – possibly gaining extra insight as he comes from a family of real-life teachers!

John Godber is one of the nation’s most popular playwrights. His other classic works include Bouncers and Up ‘n’ Under. The 25th anniversary production of Up ‘n’ Under, starring Abi Titmuss, featured at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Teechers runs at the Lowry from 7 – 11 September.
