HappyStorm Tour NW with Myth Of Escape

Local Theatre Company, Happystorm bring their new play the Myth Of Escape to a variety of venues in the Northwest from this week. (7 July, onwards).

The plot follows Billy, who finds himself in a prison cell next to Alex neither are sure what they have done wrong. Perhaps nothing. It doesn’t seem to matter. Someone wanted them imprisoned and so they have been. When Billy is released, escape ceases to exist leaving suicide the only choice left to be made. However, a third eye has been watching them closely and launches a battle for control of their minds.

With everything in place for the men to be enemies, Alex’s grief and Billy’s rebellion stir up unexpected moments of comic absurdity and friendship, much to the frustration of The Powers That Be.

The Myth of Escape explores isolation and oppression in today’s society. Set partly in prison, it questions how ordinary people interpret the politicised world when they are presented with by government, media, and wider society.

The unusual staging sees prison cells set adjacent to one another and later above each other – with Billy and Alex communicating through the isolating walls.

A provocative, timely piece that forges forward to ask the question we are often too entrenched to ask ourselves… are any of us truly free? The play is directed by John Garfield Roberts.
