It’s Ladies Day at Royal Court, 14 June

The Royal Court Liverpool is staging Amanda Whittington’s comedy Ladies Day, starring Emmerdale’s Roxanne Pallett.

The show will be Ken Alexander’s first show as Artistic Director. Originally performed by Hull Truck Theatre Company in 2005, the setting was Royal Ascot at York but this production will see the action moved to Aintree Ladies Day.

The cast includes Eithne Browne, Lynn Francis and Jack Lord. New faces to the Royal Court include Angela Simms and Roxanne Pallett (who played Emmerdale’s Jo Sugden).

Shelley wants to be famous, Jan wants to be free, Linda wants a nice feller and Pearl wants to retire. None of them want to be packing fish. What they really, really want is a bloody good day out in their posh frocks where they can have a giggle. Why not a day at the races?

Kevin Fearon, the show’s Producer and Chief Executive of Royal Court Liverpool, is looking forward to getting the show underway: “When this script landed on my desk I knew it was a great show. It is a real feelgood comedy and some of the audience will be wiping away a tear at the end. The cast are a great bunch and we were really impressed by Angela and Roxanne at auditions so we can’t wait to have them here for the start of rehearsals. Jack will be the busiest of the bunch though as he plays six different parts!”

Ladies Day is Liverpool’s Royal Court from 14 June – 13 July.
